In the 1910s, Waterman gave out these quite unusual "Knock Wood" coins to anyone who wrote in and asked. On the front it says, "Waterman's Ideal Fountain Pen," and around the edge, "Utopian State Seal - Sovereign Talisman Against All Evil"
The reverse has a very thin veneer of wood which you would touch or "knock" for good luck. It says “Knock Wood," and around the edge it reads, "The Royal Currency of Utopia." The coins came in white (pictured), black, blue and red. White is said to be the most rare.

Hey, pen folks! We're having a pen meet-up on Saturday, October 5th from 1:30p -5:00p, and Vanness Pen Shop has graciously agreed to host. There will be pen repairs and ink samples, and lots of door prizes, with the Grand Prize being a hand made pen by Shawn Newton!
Our regular meetings are on a weeknight, which makes it difficult to attend for those outside the metro area. This is your chance to ask questions, try out new pens and inks, maybe get a pen fixed, and just spend the afternoon with fellow pen enthusiasts. We'll post more info as we get closer to the event. Stay tuned, and mark your calendar! |
