Kaweco Sport Fountain Pen Cognac - Galen Leather Edition

​Galen Leather, based in Instanbul, Turkey, is known for its fine, handmade leather products, including notebooks and covers, pen cases, bags, and wallets, as well as their gorgeous writing boxes, made in collaboration with Walden Woodworks. Galen has recently teamed up with Kaweco to offer the Kaweco Sport Fountain Pen Cognac - Galen Leather Edition. From when we saw the first marketing photos, we knew we would be adding one of these to our collection.​ We ordered on June 20th, the pen shipped on June 27th, and arrived here by Fedex on July 2nd.

We were pleasantly surprised to find that Galen sent not just a new pen, but a nice assortment of goodies along as well. The pen itself comes in a nicely designed heavy cardboard box with black foam padding, and as a nice bonus, they've included a Galen Leather brown drawstring bag, a colorful postcard featuring a temple from Aphrodisias, Turkey, a glass bead charm, and a coupon for 10% off our next purchase. We also received a sample size offering of Shazel brand instant Turkish coffee, a package of Doğuş Earl Grey tea, and an Eyüp Sabri Tuncer white tea refreshing towel.

The pen is a transparent demonstrator in a beautiful, deep cognac amber, in the traditional Sport style. It's a small pen when capped, at about 4 1/4", but when posted it's a full 5 1/4 and has a great hand feel when writing. The Kaweco badge on the end of the cap is a nice touch. It comes with an international cartridge in blue.

It's a smooth writer, as you would expect from Kaweco. The writing sample shown below is on Strathmore 24lb writing paper. This photo shows it with the optional Kaweco Sport Deluxe Clip in black.

At only $30, this pen is a real bargain and a good value. As of this writing they are still in stock, but they are out of Extra Fine and Stub nib sizes.
